British Championships 2026 Round-Up

Performance report of the Weightlifting Wales team at the recent British Championships (16/17 May) that took place at Telford International Centre

The British Championships proved to be another successful event for the Welsh Weightlifting team as the final qualification event for the Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifting Wales supported a full team of 16 athletes competing within the International section, with athletes contesting Commonwealth Games qualification alongside others gaining valuable experience of international-standard competition.

There were strong performances throughout the weekend, with total personal bests achieved by Garin Beams, Thomas Duggan, James Wales, Catrin Haf Jones, Catrin Jones and Laura Hughes, alongside numerous individual Snatch and Clean & Jerk bests.

The team also secured a number of medal-winning performances, including Garin Beams being crowned British Champion in the 65kg category.

Other medal winners included:

Men

  • Thomas Duggan – Silver (60kg)
  • Garin Beams – Gold (65kg)
